Introduction

CEPESE – Research Centre for the Study of Population, Economy and Society is an institution devoted to scientific research, with an inter-University nature, it has its own statutes, published in Diário da República (Portuguese Official Newspaper) no. 13 from 16th January 1990, no. 100 from 29th April 1999 (changes) and no. 244 from 21st December 2006 (changes). In addition to its own projects, CEPESE carries out research projects in cooperation with other Portuguese and foreign universities and research centres, having established cooperation agreements with some of them. Currently, CEPESE has 300 individual members, besides fourteen collective partners and honour patrons. Its research is carried out in the most diverse areas, such as History, Heritage, Art, International Relations, Population and Prospective, supporting the accomplishment of studies, allowing the debate of research results in seminars and other international and multidisciplinary scientific meetings, and promoting their publication in a journal, População e Sociedade(Population and Society), published once a year, |
and through the publication of collections such as: Economia e Sociedade (Economy and Society), Os Portugueses no Mundo (The Portuguese in the World), Arte e Património (Art and Heritage),Militarium Ordinum Analecta and Globalização e Segurança (Globalization and Security). CEPESE has its own premises in an autonomous building belonging to the University of Porto, which includes four working offices, two meeting rooms and a Library. It is equipped with networked computers and broadband internet access; it has its own servers, colour laser printers, a scanner, a photocopier and a video-projector. CEPESE’s base financing is assured by the Foundation for Science and Technology through a multiannual funding, by the research projects it carries out, by the supports granted by scientific patronage, meant for publications and seminars, and by the fees paid by collective and individual members. |
