Research Groups
As a Research Unit of the Foundation for Science and Technology, CEPESE is composed of five autonomous Research Groups (RGs), some of them subdivided into different research areas.
- Portuguese Foreign Relations
- This Group carries out the study of social, political and cultural relations between Portugal and other countries, namely Brazil, Spain, Italy and Russia, with special attention paid to the contribution of Porto and Northern Portugal to these relations. Coordination of Fernando de Sousa.
- Economy, Society and Politics of Contemporary Portugal
- The scientific analysis of presences and disparities in Portugal in a contemporary historical perspective and the need for changes in the context of globalization substantiate the aim of this research group. Coordination of Carlos Amaral Dias.
- Portuguese Art and Cultural Heritage
- The Portuguese Art and Cultural Heritage Research Group was created in order to promote the study of the artists and artisans, and the works produced by them in territories connected to the Portuguese diaspora. Thus, this group aims at giving a significant contribution to the Portuguese Art History since the Middle Ages up to the 20th century. Coordination of Natália Marinho Ferreira-Alves.
- Population and Prospective
- The main goal of this group is to contribute to the study of the history of the Portuguese population and understand trends, rhythms and characteristics of the Portuguese people, combining a wide perspective of the historical time with the specific reading of the Historical Demography and Demographic Analysis. Coordination of Teresa Rodrigues.
- Medieval and Renaissance Studies
- The aim of this group is to study the social, political and economical dimensions of the Military Orders in Portugal, as well as society and political powers during the Middle Ages. Coordination of Paula Pinto Costa.
