Research Projects

Within the scope of its activity, and with the aim of increasing the knowledge in areas insufficiently studied in the area of Social Sciences, CEPESE has been developing several research projects, many of them with an international scope. Among the financing entities, in addition to the FCT – either through direct financing or through multi-annual financing – other institutions are also relevant, both public and private, such as the European Science Foundation, Municipalities, the Assembly of the Republic, Ministries, Foundations and Entreprises.

The Mayors of Vila Nova de Gaia (1834-2019)

This project produced biographies of the individuals who, over almost two centuries, from the re-foundation of the municipality in 1834 to the present day, led the executive branch of Vila Nova de Gaia, focusing on the activities carried out during their respective mandates. Simultaneously, the project included a study on the origins and evolution of the Municipality of Gaia, the legal framework of the Municipality of Gaia and its mayors, the method of acquisition and duration of their respective mandates, and the individual and collective characterization of these personalities.

Ageing and Health in Portugal. Policies and practices

The project Ageing and Health in Portugal. Policies and Practices aims at measuring the relationships between the health status of the Portuguese population and the expected increase of education levels over the next decades, assessing the range and implications of this co-relationship, through the combination of demographic and econometric analysis techniques that allow a systemic view of this phenomenon, in order to support the decision making process within the scope of the health public policies.

AZULEJAR – Conservation of Tiles on Façades

This Project aims at characterizing façade elements in several buildings in need of conservation actions involving their historical context, taking into consideration the production methods, their composition and the factors for the degradation of tiles.

Redes Sociais Pessoais de Idosos Portugueses

Sob coordenação de Sónia Guadalupe, este Projeto de Investigação teve por objetivo geral descrever e tipificar (criação de tipologias) as redes sociais pessoais dos idosos portugueses quanto às suas características estruturais, funcionais e de satisfação.

Bragança. Das Origens à Revolução Liberal de 1820

Na sequência do Projeto "Bragança na Época Contemporânea (1820-2012)", desenvolvido pelo CEPESE e que esteve na origem de uma obra em dois volumes lançada em 2013, este projeto de investigação teve como objetivo dar continuidade ao estudo e à publicação da história de Bragança, agora desde as suas origens pré-históricas até 1820, de forma rigorosa e crítica, procurando captar a evolução da cidade no contexto nacional e ibérico.

História das Franciscanas Missionárias de Nossa Senhora em Portugal

Com mais de 150 anos de presença em Portugal, as Franciscanas Missionárias de Nossa Senhora têm acompanhado as rápidas transformações da sociedade portuguesa e do mundo, distinguindo-se pela notável ação que desenvolvem. Através deste projeto de investigação foi possível dar a conhecer a sua História, desde a sua chegada ao nosso País até aos nossos dias.
