European Consortium for Humanities Institutes & Centres

Created officially in February 2011, the European Consortium for Humanities Institutes & Centres has CEPESE as founding partner. Gathering several institutes from the UK, France, Italy, Spain, Germany and many other countries, it aims at dialoguing with the European Science Foundation, the European Union and other funding bodies and policy makers on the need for humanities research, being able to speak on behalf the Humanities and develop a language in favour of the promotion of the Institutes of Humanities in the European universities; organize an annual Humanities Congress, with the involvement of key partners, including donors and policy-makers, at both European and national level; and to establish a network throughout the EU to lobby for the Humanities in Europe, to prepare collaborative projects and initiatives, and to establish an effective network in conjunction with other international humanities networks.

The 4th ECHIC Annual Conference, held in Porto, in March 2014, was organized by CEPESE, which decisively strengthened the role of our Unit within this consortium, which is now part of its core committee.
